Strategies

The items listed on my chart involve 3 ways I believe collaboration occurs personally and educationally within the life of the learner.
Advantages to them are;
Increased communication among members of a network.
Socially based which is key in collaboration because humans are social by nature.
Helps the learner feel a sense support throught the community.

  1. Hi Jeannine: First let me say, as I am reviewing different blogs - I am beginning to conclude that I didn't understand this concept map assignment -- so please keep that in mind as you read my comment.

    I can appreciate the linkage of these items with collaboration, but how do you see content and more specifically the stated outcomes of a course being linked to collaboration?

    Thanks! --Debbie

  2. I think that discussion boards, blogs, and wikis are good ways to encourage communication and collaboration between students. Blogs and wikis would be especially useful now since many students are using those technologies outside of a classroom setting. In terms of wikis, I've heard that some teachers, schools, and districts are beginning to use them as an alternative to traditional textbooks. Having students create a wiki for use as their "textbook" for a course would be a great way to bring collaboration into the mix.

  3. Hi Jeannine,
    I agree with you that blogs and wikis will help your students collaborate and communicate with you and with each other. I was not aware of using Wikis for a textbook as Monica has suggested. I suppose it would be like Wikipedia where different people add to the project. That would be a great learning tool.

  4. Thank you ladies,
    Debbie I didnt think I understood the assignment completely either. I think I need to add those elements to my concept map.
    Monica and Neena, I had not heard of the wiki idea either. Interesting, I wonder how that would work...do you know what schools have done this?
