Static vs Dynamic

In regards to static-dynamic concepts, there are many dynamic areas that I feel comfortable utilizing. I am getting more comfortable using blogs :0)
I need to still learn about embedding certain types of files into certain websites. I have a drive inside of me to figure it out, even if it takes two hours!
I tend to think static concepts are a bit boring...maybe because I am more of a visual learner and my ADHD kicks in, making it hard for me to concentrate on things I can not interact with.

  1. Hi Jeannine: I see your static concept map - but I am unable to locate tthe dynamic concept map --- I was clicking everywhere, but no luck. I am sure I am missing something really obvious.

However, since it sounds like you are becoming comfortable with these BLOGS - I will ask the question I have been asking at my university, without a staisfactory answer. What are the advantages/disadvantages, pros/cons of a disucssion board and a blog. Is one more appropriate to use in a specific situation? Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide. -- Debbie

  2. Debbie,
I checked my snapfish upload and they both seem to be there, so I am not sure what's happening on your end...
To answer your question, I think using blogs in classrooms can help with getting everyone more involved in the discussion. I work in a middle school and I know that even the most shy kids participate because the fear of ridicule is somehow diminished. I think the disadvantage would be that the teacher would need to monitor the blog very closely to make sure the students are blogging by the rules, so to speak.

  3. Hi Jeannine,
I think that most of us are visual learners and as you have stated the dynamic technologies are geared more to that type learner. Moller (2008) stated that dynamic tools were more engaging and that learners construct their own knowledge using these tools.

  4. I like that you included both old and new technologies on your static mind map. It shows that just because the technology is new doesn't necessarily guarantee that it will be dynamic. Many of our students are used to interacting with technology outside of the classroom, and we need to work to find ways to bring the dynamic technologies they use outside of class into our instruction.
